Innovative Science Education
About teacher scientist Network
We are a local science education charity founded in 1994 that strives to enhance science education in a variety of ways, all of which involve bringing together the science and education communities.
All our activities are steered by those who use the scheme. This design allows us to respond quickly and flexibly to local needs, and all our activities have evolved and adapted accordingly.
What is the Teacher Scientist Network
Established with the vision of creating a collaborative platform, the Teacher Scientist Network has been at the forefront of educational innovation since 1994. We are committed to building strong partnerships that empower teachers with the latest scientific knowledge and resources, ensuring that students continue to view science as an engaging and practical subject.
One of the Teacher Scientist Network’s most distinguishing features is its ‘bottom up’ collaborative structure. In other words, all our activities are steered by those who use the scheme. This design allows TSN to respond quickly and flexibly to local needs, and our activities continue to evolve and adapt accordingly.
Our Aims
- To support and encourage teachers to deliver up-to-date and hands-on science.
- To encourage scientists to interact with teachers and children.
- To help counteract the negative stereotypes of scientists and engender a sense of science is for me.
Our Structure
The Teacher Scientist Network (TSN) currently employs a single member of staff – the co-ordinator who is employed part-time to manage and develop the network and its associated activities.
We work regularly with volunteers, science communication students from the University of East Anglia (UEA) and have hosted interns on specific projects.
All our activities are overseen by a teacher-dominated Steering Group, representing local schools and member organisations of the Norwich Research Park.
We rely upon grant-support and consultancy commissions from a range of organisations and funding agencies within the UK and Europe through successful bids and partnerships in open competition.
Our Charitable Status
The Teacher Scientist Network is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status. Registered in England, No.455366. Registered charity No. 1096208.
The registered office of the TSN is: John Innes Centre, Colney Lane, Norwich, NR4 7UH, UK. Telephone: +44 (0)1603 450000 Email: ts.network@nbi.ac.uk
